CommonLife: problem, approach and result
The problem
Pastors and church staff carry a teaching load on top of everything else the week asks of them. General-purpose AI tools speed that work up but answer without showing their work: no passages, no sources, no way to check what came back before it reaches a congregation. For teaching, an answer you cannot trace is an answer you cannot use.
Our approach
We built CommonLife end to end, from brand and product design through the app itself. The core decision was that every answer returns with the scripture behind it, not as a footnote but as the point. Around that we built sharing, so a passage can move straight into a group study, multi-language support, so a congregation is not limited to one language, and a perspectives view that shows how different traditions read the same text. Sermon drafting lives in the same place as the study, so preparation does not get split across tools.
The result
One place where a leader can ask a question, see the passages the answer rests on, compare how that text has been read, share it with a group, and draft from it. CommonLife is our own product, which makes it the clearest view of how we design and ship AI products for everyone else.
